These are the drafting guidelines for our upcoming 2009 MiLB draft.
1. During every off-season we will hold a 10 round
minor league draft starting at 7am EST on February 1st.
The draft order will be the opposite of the previous year's
final regular season standings.
2. The minor league draft will be a 10 round optional
participation draft. All teams will be allowed a maximum
number of 10 selections, but must have room in their MiLB
roster for every player selected. Rosters will unlock at 7am
EST on Monday January 19th for you to drop players from
your MiLB roster to open spots prior to the draft. Trades
for players/picks may be done during this time frame.
The deadline for opening roster spots will be 6am EST on
February 1st. A team with 5 open roster spots on February
1st will have 5 draft picks, a team with 6 open roster spots
on February 1st will have 6 draft picks, et cetera until the
maximum of 10 has been reached. If a team has more than
10 open roster spots, they will not receive any additional
picks beyond their 10th.
3. Please be sure to update your minor league rosters
on this site in your team’s Information as you make your
roster changes, including players acquired during the
draft. This is a must!!! This is the only
way for other owners to know who is available to be
drafted. If your rosters are not updated properly, and
someone drafts one of your players, the league may
award that team the player since your roster did not
reflect him as being on your team.
4. During the minor league draft you may draft only
players who are under the 250/80 limits. Only players that
have signed a contract and are officially a part of an MLB
organization are available to draft. Unsigned draftees are
not eligible to be drafted. An exception to this rule are
Foreign born players in their 1st year of MLB service.
A. Foreign born Players.
A. All international signees in their first year are not
eligible to be drafted in the MiLB draft, but they may
be bid on in the FA Auction with all the rules that
apply there. However, if they play a single game in
the system they signed in and are not signed to a
FA deal by a BIGS League team, they are available
for drafting in the next MiLB draft that occurs after
they have played that game, as long as they are
still below the MLB limits for MiLB eligibility
5. The MiLB draft will commence at 7am EST with pick 1
of the first round. Each team will be notified via email
when their turn is on the clock (OTC). Each team will be
given a 12 hour window to make their pick. At the end of
the 12 hour period, that will be ruled as a passed pick
and no longer be valid. If you are unable to pick during
your OTC time frame, please contact someone in League
Management to make your pick for you.
